What are Saugatuck Antique Pavilion's hours?

We're open 10am to 6pm, seven days a week, all year round. There are only three days a year you won't find us here: Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Otherwise, come whenever suits you.

Is there an admission fee?

Accepted Answer

There's no cost to visit, and no ticket or admission of any kind. Come in, take your time, and shop at your own convenience. Plenty of people stop in simply to look around, and that's genuinely welcome.

How much time should I plan for a visit?

Most people spend an hour or two with us, though we'd gently suggest allowing more. There's a lot to see across 23,000 square feet and more than 100 vendors, and the visitors who enjoy it most are the ones who don't rush. The aisles are wide and the lighting is good, so browsing is comfortable rather than cramped.

When is the best time to visit?

If you have the choice, come on a weekday. Tuesday through Thursday is our quietest stretch, which means the aisles are yours and you get first look at whatever arrived midweek. Thursday mornings we put a pot of coffee on until noon, on us, so that's the one we'd point you toward. Weekends are busier and have a livelier feel, and there's something to be said for that too.

Do you have restrooms?

We do, and we keep them clean. They're inside, and staff will happily point you in the right direction.

Is there parking?

Accepted Answer

Plenty, and it's free. We have a large lot right in front of the building, so you can park close and carry your finds straight out to the car without a long haul.

Is the building accessible?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and easily so. We're a single-storey building with no stairs and no curbs between the parking lot and the front door, and the aisles are wide throughout. If there's anything we can do to make your visit more comfortable, just ask a staff member.

Where is Saugatuck Antique Pavilion?

Question 9

How far is the Antique Pavilion from Chicago or Detroit?

Accepted Answer

Chicago is about 90 miles, roughly two hours and twenty minutes around the bottom of the lake. Detroit is a little further at around two hours and forty-five minutes across the state. Either way it makes a very comfortable day trip, and we see regulars from both sides of the lake who build a weekend around it.

How far is it from Grand Rapids, Holland or Kalamazoo?

Closer than most people expect. Holland is about 25 minutes, Grand Rapids about 45, and Kalamazoo about an hour. South Bend, Indiana is roughly an hour and a half. If you're anywhere along the lakeshore, we're an easy afternoon.

Is it easy to find from the highway?

Very. Take I-196 to Exit 36 and head half a mile north on Blue Star Highway. You'll spot our sign from the road, and we're right next door to the Saugatuck Brewing Company.

What kind of antiques do you carry?

Accepted Answer

A little of everything, which is rather the point. Furniture, glassware, vintage vinyl, jewelry, toys, tools, books, advertising, kitchenware, primitives, and a great deal that defies easy description. More than 100 individual vendors each curate their own booth or showcase, so the range is genuinely wide, and it changes constantly.

Is everything really antique?

With a few exceptions, nearly everything on our floor is at least 20 years old. That's a standard we hold our vendors to, and it's what separates us from a resale or home-decor shop, so nearly everything you see will be either vintage or antique. You'll also find plenty of pieces well over a hundred years old and considered true antiques in the strictest sense. If you're looking for the real thing rather than reproductions, you're in the right place.

What's the difference between antique, vintage and retro?

It's a fair question, and even the trade uses the words loosely. Traditionally “antique” means a hundred years or older, “vintage” means at least 20 years old and characteristic of its era, and “retro” means something newer made in an older style. In practice they overlap a good deal, and our staff are always happy to talk through what you're looking at.

How often do you get new items?

Constantly. With more than 100 vendors restocking their own booths, the floor genuinely changes week to week. That's why so many of our customers come back often, and it's why our monthly email leads with what's newly arrived.

Can I find out if you have a specific item before I drive over?

Accepted Answer

Please do give us a call at 269-857-6041 and we'll go and have a look for you. Our staff know the floor and they know what came in recently. We don't keep a searchable online inventory, because with a hundred booths turning over every week it would be out of date almost immediately, so a phone call really is the better way.

What payment methods do you accept?

Accepted Answer

Credit and debit cards, cash, checks, and Antique Pavilion gift certificates. Whatever's easiest for you.

Do you offer discounts?

Accepted Answer

Items priced under $40 are firm. On items over $40, a discount may be offered in some instances, but that's entirely at the individual vendor's discretion, and many do not offer discounts. Prices are entirely set by the vendors themselves rather than by the mall, so what you see on the tag is what the vendor has decided the piece is worth.

Can you hold an item for me?

Happily. Once a piece is paid for, in person or over the phone, we are able to hold most pieces for up to a week. If it is a piece that isn't paid for yet, we can set it aside for a few hours until you have an opportunity to purchase the item. And if you've been thinking about something you saw on an earlier visit, call us at 269-857-6041 and we can see if it is still available, we can process payment over the phone and put your name on it.

Question 20

Do you ship, or is it pickup only?

Most of our customers take their finds with them, but if something won't fit in the car we'll do our best to help. We'll take your address, measure and weigh the piece, and get you a shipping quote. If the cost works for you, we'll help coordinate the shipment from there. So if you fall for a sideboard and arrived in a sedan, come and talk to us at the counter rather than leaving it behind.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Accepted Answer

We don't, and that's standard across the antiques industry, since these are one-of-a-kind pieces with their own histories. What we'd much rather do is help you buy with real confidence in the first place. We keep flashlights, jeweler's loupes, black lights, measuring tapes and other antiquer's tools at the front counter, and our staff will gladly help you look a piece over properly, so you can fully inspect before you buy. Just ask, and we'll bring the tools to you.

Do you buy antiques, or offer appraisals?

If you have antiques you'd like to sell, start with our Sell My Antiques page and our staff will take it from there. We don't offer appraisals of any kind, though we're always glad to point you toward someone who does.

Is the Antique Pavilion dog friendly?

Accepted Answer

Very. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are always welcome, and we rather enjoy meeting them. We also host a booth for Wishbone Pet Rescue Alliance of Allegan County, and the proceeds from their sales go straight to supporting their work.

Is there anything for kids to do?

Accepted Answer

There is. We run a scavenger hunt with a prize at the end, which tends to keep younger visitors thoroughly occupied while the grown-ups browse. Ask at the front counter for a sheet on your way in. We're stroller friendly too, with wide aisles throughout, so bring the whole family.

Please do, we'd love it! If you find something wonderful, take a picture and tag us — half the fun for us is seeing what people discover.

Can I get a coffee while I shop?

Accepted Answer

You can. There's a book shop inside serving coffee from Uncommon Coffee Roasters, just up the road here in Saugatuck. It's a good spot to sit down partway through. And on Thursday mornings the coffee's on us until noon.

Is there someplace to eat nearby?

The Saugatuck Brewing Company is directly next door, and if you bring your Antique Pavilion receipt across you'll get 10% off your food the same day. We're also a stop on the Lakeshore Antique Trail, which runs up the west Michigan coast, so we make a natural anchor for a full day of antiquing.

How do I become a vendor?

Fill out the New Vendor Application on our Become a Vendor page and we'll be in touch. We offer booths and showcases in a range of sizes, with 24/7 security monitoring, a real marketing budget working on your behalf, and no work obligations — you don't staff your own booth.

What does a booth cost?

Accepted Answer

Rates depend on the size and type of space, and we'd rather discuss them once we've seen your application. That way the conversation is about what actually suits what you sell, instead of a number that may not apply to you at all.

Do you have space available right now?

Accepted Answer

We keep a substantial waitlist, and we'd genuinely encourage you to join it. Spaces do open up regularly, and when they do we match them to what a vendor wants to sell, because we curate the mall rather than simply filling gaps. Getting your application in means you're in the running as soon as the right space comes free.
